Wink

I have recently been made aware of the power of the wink.

It is like a magic power that lets your friends know they are “in on the joke”. It confirms connection and takes the edge off of teasing. It lets strangers know that you are interested in connecting.

Winking is a predecessor to a shared laugh, unthreatening yes unmistakably intentional.

Although I have historically not used this tool and skill effectively, I am now trying to learn the art.

In the effort to practice, I observed that a large percentage of the population does not make themselves available to be winked at. As I was more intentional with my interactions, I realized that most people don’t look others in the eyes long enough to receive a wink.

Why are so many people shut off?
