Practice

Improving is the point.

Gain the most out of each roll.

People that are better than you-

  • Practice your A-game - find the holes in your game and be humbled.

    • It is good to remember that some people can kick your ass, despite your best efforts.

  • Mentee - Ask for advice.

    • They may teach you new tricks, techniques or concepts. All are valuable.

People at your level- work.

  • Their best situation - Or your worst situation.

    • As you come up with solutions for bad situations, this is where you will see if your technique is up to snuff.

  • Struggle - Feel what it is like to test yourself.

    • Flex your will power and grit.

People you are better than- Allow them to work.

  • Practice Defense - Let them get you in bad situations with good technique, then practice defense and progression.

    • This also allows them to work on bettering their finishing techniques.

  • Mentor - this is your chance to teach others.

    • When you explain a technique or concept, it forces you to simplify and clarify what you are doing, and explain it understandably.

    • Sometimes that is teaching a spazzy white belt to be humble.

Every opponent and grappling partner can teach you something.
