Perspective (Progress Cycle 2)

Perspective.PNG

Perspective is gaining some insight into the world you wish to enter. See what has and hasn’t worked before and the details and tricks that a casual observer wouldn’t notice. Apply this to yourself and how you want to represent yourself.

Perspective includes learning the necessary tools and resources you are going to need to move forward, and how will you get your hands on those tools and resources.

When dealing with a social group, the tools and resources are norms and expectations. These norms are even more important than the rules. Norms tell you what is acceptable action, and what will get you scorned. Norms also tell you how to thrive in that community.

The more you learn, the more you will realize you don’t know. Be vulnerable and patient. Once you realize you are not an expert, you can remove the responsibility of being an expert.

Activity-

To help you gain perspective, listen to jokes about the subject matter that you know nothing about. meme’s are a great example of jokes readily available, spouting truth about the social expectations of a group.

If you don’t have access to meme’s, or don’t enjoy them, ask someone you disagree with or dislike for advice. They probably have some perspective that you haven’t considered, and it is good to shift your perspective.

If you don’t like either of those activities, read a book in a new genre. Then try to understand what is most important to the author and what is important to their readers.
