Approval

Do shit because you like it, or because it is funny or awesome. Or do it because someone wants you to do it for them.

Do not do stuff because you want people to acknowledge you for doing it.

Many will deny approval just to have power over you, and the only thing you can do to gain those people’s approval, is to not need it.
