Oppression
As I better understanding how the world really work, I am seeing the trainings on identities as another form of oppression.
Underprivileged individuals have fought for the opportunity to better themselves by participating in a educational community that will open new doors of possibility. Upon arrival they are taught that their abnormal traits, their diversity, and their minority identity are causing them to be oppressed and do not have the same opportunity as the people that are part of the majority group. And worse, they are told that it is a systemic issue, and that this unfair system is created for them to fail.
The piece that is missed, is the fact that those individuals have already learned to fight and succeed by being the 1% that made it to university. They have beaten the odds, and their experience and fight is the valuable trait that will help them beat and change the system. They are not the victim’s they are told they are. They are the solution to an unfair world.
Use your personal strength, unique perspective, and diverse skills to better the world, don’t miss your own privilege and become a victim that is not fighting an unfair world. Work with those that have the power to encourage a systemic change.
