Goal Amnesia

I am amazed at the way people are able to forget all the pain they feel while chasing a goal.

Angry and struggling all the way to the finish line, then proud of themselves and the relief at being finished.

The emotional flip becomes the remembered point of the endeavor. The pain removed makes all the suffering more valuable for its lack.

In the end, we want to suffer again.

With appreciation for the suffering, we are able to endure a little more suffering each day and each year.

Aging. Caring. Loving. Suffering for your own struggles and also for the the struggles of others.

If life is suffering, then the greatest relief must be death.

Maybe that contrast is heaven, and God’s greatest gift to us is the suffering in this life.
